The Harlem Renaissance Through the Music of Duke Ellington
Reading Black History is a wonderful mind blowing experience. For me, it’s been about catching up on all of what was left out of the history books and curriculum during my early schooling. It’s saddening to see how Black achievements and contributions to our nation’s history have been marginalized and whitewashed over the years.
So unacceptable. But I can only do my part….
Recently, I have found myself consumed by a book entitled “Harlem Speaks: A Living History of the Harlem Renaissance.” Recommended to me by Bob Topp, owner of Hermitage Bookstore in Denver’s Cherry Creek North District, it has been a great follow-up read to a feature article I researched and wrote for Libertarianism.org.
I am now reading the chapter on the great musician Duke Ellington. Care to join me reminiscing about his significance to the world of music?
