Are there any books from black authors that discuss religious trauma through the use of religion as a means to control others economically and mentally?
During difficult times, I've probably forwarded this classic video of the Detroit Mass Choir to friends (or put it on Facebook) 100 times over the years... and that's a conservative estimate. (I was a church music director in metro-Atlanta for 30+ years.)
I confess that I clicked on the article mostly because I saw bell hooks' name, but I found even more information than I expected. I'm intrigued that you attended Shiloh Baptist Church and St. Catherine's Catholic Grade School. I'm guessing there are some stories there...
I learn the most from people’s personal stories. Thank you!

Do any black authors discuss religious trauma through using spirituality as a weapon for mental enslavement?
